Skywalk adventure in Ghana

During a recent trip to Ghana to attend a planning meeting of the Pan African Teachers’ Centre, ATA staff officer Tim Johnston was taken by his hosts from the Ghana National Association of Teachers to visit Kakum National Park and its canopy walkway. The walkway is a series of rope suspension bridges linking the tops of several giant trees in the park’s rain forest. Waiting to experience a walk in the treetops when Johnston arrived were several students on a field trip from one of Accra’s Muslim schools. “It took a little while to form a bond,” Johnston says, “but the SLR Nikon I carried helped with the process.” One student asked, “Can you take my picture?” Johnston asked permission of teacher Aziz (at the left in the group photograph), who approved. A disc and photographs recording the adventure were left in Accra for Aziz to share with his students.— Photographs by Tim Johnston
