Print publication wins ATA's Pub Ed Award

Typically bestowed upon an individual or group, the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s Public Education Award will be presented this year to a magazine—Today’s Parent. The magazine’s editor-in-chief, Caroline Connell, will be on hand to accept the honour at the Annual Representative Assembly.

The Public Education Award recognizes entities that provide outstanding support to public education through ways other than teaching. Today’s Parent, with its balanced and enlightening coverage of the spectrum of education issues, effectively met that criterion. In articles on topics ranging from standardized testing to school violence prevention, the magazine consistently features the voice of practising classroom teachers, consequently presenting the distinct perspective of the teaching profession to one of education’s most important stakeholder groups—parents.

Today’s Parent is a consumer magazine for parents of children aged 14 and under. With headquarters in Toronto, it has more than 1.7 million readers across Canada. Today’s Parent is published monthly and wholly owned by Rogers Media Publishing.
