What is Project Overseas?

Operated by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) in cooperation with provincial and territorial teachers’ organizations, Project Overseas matches the skills of Canadian teachers to requests for assistance from overseas teacher organizations. Canadian teachers who volunteer for the project share their talents and skills with educators in developing countries and, in return, learn first-hand about conditions that others work in, share experiences within the country and return to their Canadian classrooms better prepared to interpret the world to their students.

Project Overseas is funded by contributions from Canadian teacher organizations, the Canadian International Development Agency, the CTF Trust Fund and, in Alberta, the Government of Alberta’s Wild Rose Foundation.

To apply for Project Overseas, download an application form from the Association’s website (www.teachers.ab.ca) under About the ATA/International Assistance. For information, contact Violette Bigeat at the ATA. Telephone: 447-9494 (Edmonton and area) or 1-800-232-7208 from elsewhere in the province; e-mail: violette.bigeat@ata.ab.ca. Deadline for applications for Project Overseas 2008 is Friday, November 9, 2007.
