This year, Ghana is celebrating 50 years of independence.

Six-member Project Overseas teams taught in three different communities for one week each. About 600 teachers and administrators registered for the program, approximately 200 in each centre. Each week-long session began with a ceremony to introduce the joint Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and CTF teaching team. Participants, program instructors and local dignitaries gathered for speeches, introductions and a pep talk. Each week’s closing ceremonies, which took place Friday afternoons, were longer and more elaborate. CTF members said a few words, and GNAT and government dignitaries made speeches. Ghana Night took place on Fridays. Entertainment varied from traditional dancers to participants telling funny stories. Canada Night took place on Wednesdays. We began with our national anthem and presented a slide show followed by two songs. Canadian teachers demonstrated a square dance routine and then asked the audience to participate.

As always, participants and instructors shared the rewards of the program.
