Wild imaginings

Species of a different nature and colour come to life as students attending Edmonton’s Meadowlark School allow their imaginations to run wild.

The occasion was a papier mâché mask-making workshop offered by artist-in-residence Donna Boomer, who introduced students in K–6 to the creative process of mask-making and helped them connect to the animal kingdom. Students spent a half-day constructing masks of animals they had researched. The masks gained individuality as students applied paint and decorations. Pictured here are some of the students’ masterpieces. The workshop culminated in a mask parade, which delighted members of the school–community.
