Grandmothers are taking action

Grandmothers to Grandmothers: A Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) seeks to raise awareness and mobilize support in Canada for Africa’s grandmothers. The campaign was launched by the Stephen Lewis Foundation in 2006, on the eve of International Women’s Day. Since then, more than 240 groups of Canadian grandmothers have taken up the call to action and the campaign has raised more than $10 million. SLF directs these funds to community-level organizations in 15 sub-Saharan African countries that provide grandmothers with much needed support, such as food, housing grants, school fees for their grandchildren and grief counselling. Visit the Grandmothers Campaign website (www.grandmotherscampaign.org) to network with other granny groups, share ideas, read about upcoming events and learn more about the campaign and how to get involved.
