Student's winning science fair project a lot of bull

Kristin Wosar

Kristin Wosar has reason to smile. The student from J. H. Picard School in Edmonton is off to her second national science fair. Wosar was recognized for her project that involved designing an absorbent fiber from bulrushes to collect oil after a spill.

Five projects from the Edmonton Regional Science Fair held April 8 and 9 are going to the Canada-wide Science Fair 2000 to be held in London, Ontario, in May. As chance would have it, all six students are female. At the Edmonton fair, more than 200 projects were presented by 300 students from Grades 412. About 150 volunteer judges presented awards in all areas of the sciences.—Photo courtesy of the Edmonton Regional Science Fair
