- Full-year exchanges involve teaching in your exchange partner’s school and living in his or her accommodation. In turn, your exchange partner teaches in your school and lives in your accommodation.
Opportunities exist in Australia, Canada (other provinces: British Columbia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick), Germany, and the United Kingdom.
Exchanges occur on a calendar year (January to January) or school year (July to July) basis.
- You cover the cost of travel, the visa and other associated expenses. There are no program application fees, and the program secures the exchange and provides pre- and post-exchange support.
For more information on year-long exchanges, download a copy of the Exchanging Minds: Year-Long Teacher Exchanges brochure.
To qualify for a year-long exchange, you must be a full-time teacher, possess an Alberta Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate, a continuous contract and have the approval of your superintendent. Districts will have individual requirements, such as three to five years of service prior to applying.
