For Alberta teachers who don’t have one, and for those who may have forgotten the one they created years ago, here are five things you need to know about online ATA accounts.



1. Having one will be necessary to vote on significant matters related to your new central collective agreement.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association is currently negotiating a central collective agreement with the newly established Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA). When negotiations reach any stage requiring Alberta teachers to determine what action is to be taken (e.g., ratification of a new memorandum of agreement), the Association will conduct a provincewide online vote of its membership.

2. Having one is necessary to vote in the upcoming 2017 PEC election.

Voting in the 2017 PEC election will be conducted online from March 13 to 20. Visit the homepage of the Association website to find out more about the teachers who are candidates for ATA president, vice-president and the 15 district representative positions on Provincial Executive Council (PEC).

3. You need your teaching certificate number to get one.
If you have lost or misplaced your teaching certificate, you can get a duplicate teaching certificate through Alberta Education.

You may also contact us at 780-447-9400 or 1-800-232-7208 and ask for Teacher Qualifications Services. Your teaching certificate number should be on file with the Association if you have applied for a statement of qualifications or if you’ve had an evaluation of your teaching qualifications.

4. It can be used for more than voting.
Having an online ATA account gives you access to the online resources and databases of the ATA library, the opportunity to join ATA specialist councils and the ability to print your own ATA membership card.

5. A video demonstration is available.
