Know your district, know your candidates

March 13, 2017

The Alberta Teachers’ Association operates with the province organized into 11 geographic districts. In the 2017 PEC election there are races for district representative positions in four of those districts, in addition to the elections for the ATA president and ATA vice-presidents.

Active and associate ATA members from all geographic districts can vote for candidates running for the ATA president and vice-president. In the four elections for district representative, voting is restricted to active and associate members belonging to those geographic districts. How do you know if you belong? Read on.

ACTIVE MEMBERS

Only teachers who are employed by school boards, other than as superintendents, can be active members. Check out the list of school boards under each geographic district heading to see whether you will be voting for a district representative this election.

A detailed listing appears in the general bylaws section of the Association’s Members’ Handbook.

Associate members employed by a school jurisdiction vote in the geographic district related to their employing board; those who are not employed by a school jurisdiction vote in the geographic district in which they reside.
