Julie George of Stock Transportation welcomes a parent and child as they learn the ins and outs of riding the school bus in Edmonton on Sept. 1. More than 1,400 students and parents participated in the 10th annual First Riders event held jointly by Edmonton Public Schools, Edmonton Catholic Schools and Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord. The event enables parents and their children to become familiar with the bus riding experience in advance of the new school year. Edmonton schools were scheduled to begin classes Sept. 8.
