Bike-a-thon

May 26, 2015
Grade 9 student Kendra Pollock participates in a 24-hour bike-a-thon at Hunting Hills High School in Red Deer last month. Pollock’s team, “The Trippies,” used cardboard to create a Volkswagen van with moving wheels (which broke shortly after the start). The student-run event, which raised more than $87,000 for mental health programs this year, started in 2012 after a number of teen suicides in the community. A Community Relations Grant from the Alberta Teachers’ Association helped make the event a success, organizers say.
