Edmonton District—Elected by Acclamation

January 27, 2015

Sean Brown

Teaching is a calling, and I feel blessed to have had 20 great years of working with our province’s youth and with fantastic colleagues. The hard work of teaching is rewarding, but lately the realities of our working conditions, which are also our students’ learning conditions, have been making a challenging job even more so.

As an active teacher, I know what it is like in the classroom. I have lived the changes over the years and watched as colleagues have struggled to meet all of the needs of the diverse learners in their care. Through my work as district representative for Edmonton District over the past two years, having held various provincial committee roles, and having worked at the local level as Negotiating Subcommittee and Economic Policy Committee chair, vice-president and president, I have advocated and fought for the improvement of our teaching and learning conditions.

Healthy and happy teachers positively impact students. To this end, I will endeavour to continue to work hard for the teachers of Edmonton District and would be honoured to continue as the district representative for Edmonton District.

Sean Brown is currently a Grade 5 teacher at Bertha Kennedy Catholic School in St. Albert. During his 20-year career, he has taught for both Grande Prairie Catholic and Greater St. Albert Catholic school divisions, where he has classroom and leadership experience from K–9. He earned his B.Ed. from the University of Alberta and his masters from the University of British Columbia. Being a teacher and working with children have been a calling from a young age. Through the years, many personal and professional experiences have indicated the importance of hard work and dedication to both family and career.
