Central South—Elected by Acclamation

January 27, 2015

Léo Richer

I would like to thank the teachers of Central South for allowing me the opportunity to represent them again for another term. It has been an interesting and rewarding experience working for the last four years as your district representative. The five locals of Central South are blessed with great educators, and it is inspiring to see so many teachers working for other teachers. Whether it is on councils of school representatives (CSRs), specialist councils, convention boards, economic planning committees (EPCs), political engagement or DEHR committees, dedicated groups of teachers are working to make everyone’s employment an enriched experience.

As we commence 2015, our many challenges continue. Even if we have an educational system that other countries wish to emulate, we seem to be constantly tested. We have risen to these challenges in the past; however, we must be on guard as we will surely be tested again.

I will continue to champion our profession in Alberta, and I especially will continue to place my efforts on our younger teachers. They are pivotal in maintaining and developing the strong profession that has been established. Teachers are the true leaders in our public education system, and we need to safeguard our great educational standards. Our system is one of the best in the world, and it is our responsibility to maintain it.

It is indeed an honour to represent the teachers of Central South on Provincial Executive Council.

I have taught for over 30 years for Red Deer Catholic at École Secondaire Notre Dame High School. I mainly teach social studies and French language arts in the French immersion program. My wife Lynda and I have two children.
