Central North—Elected by Acclamation

January 27, 2015

Paul McCann

Paul McCann believes that his re-election as a district representative will continue to foster systemic change by modeling more effective decision-making at the Provincial Executive Council level. He wishes to continue his efforts at re-establishing the premise that the most important mandate of the elected members of the Alberta Teachers’ Association is to effectively represent the needs of the classroom teacher in an evolving educational landscape.

Paul McCann would like to strengthen member confidence by demonstrating that there is more substance to the Alberta Teachers’ Association than contract negotiations with both the Alberta government and school boards across the province.

“While serving in a leadership role, I have always endeavoured to ensure that goals and decisions are transparent and inclusive to those I represent. There should be no member secrets when it comes to setting the direction of the ATA. With your support, I believe that we have an opportunity to effect progressive change within our Association as we address the challenges of the complex dynamics we are currently facing.”

Paul McCann has been a member in good standing with Parkland Teachers’ Local 10 since 1981. Throughout his career, Paul has served as a key contact representative at various schools. He has had the distinct honour and privilege of serving as local president, representing the needs of more than 700 teacher colleagues, for two terms (2009 to 2013). Currently, Paul is finishing his first term as the Central North district representative on the Provincial Executive Council. Paul has held various positions on the executive committees of many volunteer and community organizations, including a stint with Stony Plain’s town council. He is married to Dodi, a retired teacher. Their blended family includes four adult children and one granddaughter. Paul and his wife have lived in Stony Plain for the past 22 years.
