New staff to join Professional Development

November 17, 2015 ATA News Staff

The new year will bring two new team members to the Association’s Professional Development (PD) program area. Nancy Luyckfassel and Dan Grassick were appointed as executive staff officers by Provincial Executive Council at its October meeting. Both appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2016.

Luyckfassel obtained her bachelor of education at the University of Alberta where she went on to earn two masters of education, one in secondary education and one in school counselling. She began her teaching career at Rocky View School Division in 1992 and five years later made the move to Elk Island Public Schools, where she is currently a principal at École Parc Élémentaire. In addition to extensive experience as a school administrator, it’s believed that she will bring to the PD program area experience teaching at all grade levels and that of being an Association instructor. Association instructors facilitate a variety of workshops for school- and district-based professional development events, teachers’ conventions and specialist council conferences.

Grassick earned his bachelor of education at the University of Calgary and a master of arts in leadership and administration at Gonzaga University in Spokane, and is currently working on his PhD in education at the University of Alberta. Currently, he is an executive assistant with the Calgary City Teachers’ Convention Association, an organization with which he also has held other posts, from website co-ordinator to president, since 2010. His convention association experience is combined with eight-plus years’ teaching experience with the Calgary Board of Education, membership on numerous Association specialist councils since 2010, and more than three combined years of experience in the roles of principal instructor, research assistant, facilitator and conference co-ordinator at the U of A.

The hiring of four new executive staff officers for the Association resulted from the retirement of PD staff officer Francoise Ruban and the approval of three new positions by the 2015 Annual Representative Assembly. ❚
