Indigenous educator awards open for nominations
Nominations are now open for the 2016 Guiding the Journey: Indigenous Educator Awards, which recognize outstanding educators for achievement and innovation in indigenous education. The awards are divided into six individual categories and one for organizations. Award recipients receive a $1,000 prize, a framed award and an all-expenses- paid trip to the awards gala that is held in conjunction with the annual National Gathering for Indigenous Education.

The deadline for nominations is March 4. More information is available at http://indspire.ca.

Forest Lawn reunion
The 1976 class of Calgary’s Forest Lawn High School will be holding a 40-year reunion Sept. 2 and 3. Grads, classmates, teachers and students from the years 1974 to 1978 are welcome to attend.

Planned events include a meet and greet, and a dinner-dance. Tickets are $15 and $75 respectively. For more information, search “FLHS 1976 Grad Reunion” on Facebook. You can also contact Brenda Cosens at bcuz62@hotmail.com or Cheryl Bailey at baileycm@shaw.ca.

Calgary farm safety day
Farm Safety Day is a new educational program that aims to increase farm safety awareness among Alberta’s rural students in grades 6 through 9. Teachers are invited to bring their classes to this free event at Calgary Stampede Park on March 24, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Preregistration is required and bus funding is available.

The ATA News is always on the lookout for interesting articles, photos and cartoons. Articles should not exceed 500 words and should be accompanied by a short byline, stating where you work and what you teach. Photos of teachers or students participating in interesting activities are welcome, as are cartoons. Don’t forget to include photo captions.
