Learning about specialist councils

February 23, 2016
Danielle Kowalchyk, president of the Early Childhood Education Council, shares information with a student at a professional development event at the University of Alberta on Jan. 13. Also at the table is Edmonton McMurray district representative Markiana Cyncar-Hryschuk.

Members of student locals learned about Alberta Teachers’ Association specialist councils at a professional development event held at the University of Calgary on Jan. 16 and the University of Alberta on Jan. 23.

Approximately 280 delegates from student locals throughout Alberta attended free workshops by practising teachers on topics such as classroom management, assessment and differentiated instruction. Meanwhile, volunteers from 17 specialist councils showed off their websites, publications, online communities and professional development events and encouraged membership. ❚
