#UpForSchool petition a global call to action
Education International is calling on teachers to help collect signatures for the #UpForSchool petition, a global call to action aimed at applying pressure on world leaders to provide all children and teachers with the right to attend school without being subject to danger or discrimination.
Late November marked the 25th anniversary of the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognized all children around the world as human beings with their own set of rights, including the right to a quality education. Despite progress over the past 25 years, there are 58 million children out of school, and the world is witnessing increasing attacks on schools, school children and teachers on the front lines of education. This trend is one of the reasons why, over the last year, Education International’s affiliates came together for the Unite for Quality Education campaign. The #UpForSchool petition is part of that campaign.
The agency is organizing a high-level hand-in of signatures during its World Congress in Ottawa in July 2015. It’s hoping that teachers can spread the word and help gather as many signatures as possible. The petition is available online at http://tinyurl.com/ldd2nlt. ❚
