ATA librarian Sandra Anderson holds an e-reader in recognition of the library's recent addition of a selection of ebooks to its collection.

New digital resources now available at the ATA library will enable users to improve their language skills and access a wide range of ebooks.

Pronunciator is a second-language learning system that supports the acquisition of up to 80 new languages. It also supports ESL learners who speak one of 50 non-English languages.

This system integrates full-length movies, music and lyrics, quizzes, customization of courses, hundreds of hours of downloadable audio lessons and 2,000 phrase books. Its structured learning approach combines interactive techniques like virtual coaching and pronunciation analysis with proven methods like audio lessons and scored quizzes for intensive reinforcement of what is learned.

The library is also testing the usefulness of ebooks for its users by starting with a small collection of popular titles on a wide range of topics. The collection is expected to expand over time. Ebooks can be read online or downloaded to a computer or e-reader for offline reading. The loan period for ebooks is two weeks, and members can place holds on titles that are unavailable.

To access both of these services, members must log in to the library website (http://library.teachers.ab.ca) with their ATA online accounts. Once logged in, users will see links labelled “Articles & eBooks” and “Pronunciator” on the left side of the home page. Library staff have posted help manuals to support those who need help when first using these resources. ❚
