Conference seeks speakers

Organizers of the annual conference of the English as a Second Language Council are inviting prospective keynotes, session speakers and presenters to submit a proposal for My Language ... My Endless Horizon, the 2015 conference scheduled for Oct. 29 to 31 at the Delta Lodge Kananaskis.

Campaign underway to establish emergency education fund

A World at School is joining with other education campaigners to call for a special fund for education in emergencies so that education can resume quickly after it has been disrupted by a natural disaster. The organization has a petition aimed at ensuring that all children everywhere can have access to education, with the intention of taking it to a global summit in Norway. The petition is available at www.upforschool.org.

Award program launched for everyday eco-heroes

Do you know someone in your community who is taking heroic action to support a healthier environment? Nominations are now being accepted for Earth Day Canada’s Hometown Heroes Award program, which recognizes and celebrates environmental leaders, groups and small businesses that foster meaningful, long-term community awareness and action.

The Hometown Heroes program has cash prizes available in four award categories: youth, individual, group and small business. More information and nomination packages are available at earthday.ca/hometown.

Cricket coaches available

The Alberta Schools Cricket Association has coaches who are available to visit schools throughout the province to introduce teachers and students to the sport of cricket. Details are available by contacting asca_cricket@yahoo.com. The organization’s website is www.ascacricket.com.
