Members of the Greater Peace Local No. 13 are preparing for the annual Heritage Run, to be held in Peace River on June 14.

The run promotes active living and raises money for the Peace River Museum and Mackenzie Archives Centre, an institution whose programming is a vital resource for the region, especially for students studying local, provincial and national history, said June Hickey, who is leading the local’s involvement.

“Teachers are leaders in their communities and role models for students,” Hickey said. “Alongside teachers, it is important that students have access to fun, healthy activities which also contribute to the community as a whole. The Heritage Run embodies this.”

Local members organized the run for the first time last year. Approximately 60 students from Peace River School Division and Holy Family Catholic Regional Division participated.

“We saw the Heritage Run as a great opportunity for staff and students to model ethical citizenship. The response was fantastic and we are excited to take part again this year,” said Local No. 13 president Kevin Munch. ❚
