PEC Points: PEC authorizes $5,000 donation to the ATA Education Trust in honour  of Dr. Bernie Keeler

Highlights of the Provincial Executive Council meeting held Jan. 15 and 16 at Barnett House in Edmonton

  1. Approved, for submission to the 2015 Annual Representative Assembly (ARA), a proposed budget reflecting a 1.7 per cent fee increase.
  2. Approved, for submission to the 2015 ARA, a resolution setting the annual fee payable by a full-time active member at $1,245, effective Sept. 1, 2015.
  3. Approved, for submission to the 2015 ARA, a resolution setting the annual fee payable by an associate member at $186.75, effective Sept. 1, 2015.
  4. Approved an overexpenditure from the political engagement budget to provide for the addition of three members and up to two additional meetings of the Political Engagement Committee.
  5. Approved the names of three additional members to serve on the Political Engagement Committee for a term following the next provincial election or Jan. 31, 2016, whichever is sooner.
  6. Received a presentation on how to vote by electronic means that will also be presented to local presidents at their February meeting. 
  7. Set the dates for a number of Association-sponsored events in 2014/15 and 2015/16: Student Local Conference will be held Sept. 25 and 26; local presidents will convene Oct. 30–31 and Feb. 5–6, 2016. Provincial Executive Council meetings have been scheduled for Sept. 24–25; Oct. 29–30; Dec. 3–4; Jan. 14–15, 2016; Feb. 22–23, 2016; April 7–8, 2016; May 12–13, 2016; and June 9–10, 2016.
  8. Approved the names of two recipients for honourary membership in the Association, which is reserved for members or other persons who have given meritorious service to the teaching profession, to the Association or to the advancement of education. 
  9. Directed that the Association make a $5,000 contribution to the ATA Educational Trust in memory of the Association’s fourth executive secretary, Dr. B T Keeler.
  10. Approved 28 Council resolutions for submission to the 2015 ARA.
  11. Approved, with amendments, resolutions arising from the decennial review of general long-range policy and long-range policy on early childhood education and educational research and development for submission to the 2015 ARA.
  12. Approved reports on two resolutions referred by the 2014 ARA, concerned with references to “universities” in expiring current directives for submission to the 2015 ARA.
  13. Directed, on the basis of a resolution from the Calgary Separate School Local No. 55, that the executive secretary review the desirability, feasibility, cost and organizational implications of deploying a full-time professional development executive staff officer to the Southern Alberta Regional Office.
  14. Approved an administrative guideline setting out the circumstances in which the flag at Barnett House should be flown at half-mast. 
  15. Approved the amended frame of reference for the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4. ❚
