Canada’s Coolest School Trip

Parks Canada’s Learning and Education outreach team is responsible for the My Parks Pass program that provides all Grade 8 classes across Canada with free entry to Parks Canada places and discounted family entry to any Grade 8 student visiting Parks Canada places with their family. The program also offers Canada’s Coolest School Trip, a contest that invites Grade 8 classrooms to submit a video on a theme relating to Canadian history and culture in order to win an all-inclusive four-day trip for the class to a unique Parks Canada place. Details can be found at www.myparkspass.ca and www.contest.myparkspass.ca. Various online resources for teachers, including the My Parks Pass Activity Guide, are available at www.myparkspass.ca/sites/default/files/My_Parks_Pass_Activity_Guide.pdf.

Circa 1948: History in 3-D

Looking for a unique way to encourage your students’ interest in history? Internationally renowned artist Stan Douglas and the award-winning National Film Board’s Digital Studio Vancouver have produced an immersive art app that brings history to life. Students will enter the shadows of postwar Vancouver, BC, and discover two locations that no longer exist: Hogan’s Alley and the old Hotel Vancouver.
