Become an Association Instructor!

October 23, 2012

Are you interested in facilitating workshops?

Association instructors facilitate a variety of workshops for school and district-based professional development events, teachers’ conventions and specialist council conferences.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association is seeking outstanding classroom teachers representing all grade levels and subject areas from across the province. The three-year appointments for these assignments will begin August 2013.

The application process has two parts:

1. Provide a letter of interest, including the following information:

  • Areas of interest and expertise (for example, assessment, global education, special education, student engagement)
  • Professional development leadership experiences
  • Reasons for applying

2. Complete the application form on the Alberta Teachers’ Association website (see below for website information).

Successful candidates are expected to deliver 7–10 workshops per year and are required to attend two training sessions per year. The Association covers release time and associated expenses and provides an honorarium for workshops delivered. Initial training for new instructors will take place at next year’s ATA Summer Conference, in Banff, August 12–16, 2013. Please do not apply if you are unable to attend all days of the conference, or cannot commit to attending all training sessions.

As a courtesy, please advise your superintendent and principal that you will be applying prior to doing so. All applicants must be active or associate members of the ATA and hold an Alberta teaching certificate.

Application deadline is November 15, 2012. Send your letter of interest and completed application form to Andrea Berg, ATA executive staff officer, Alberta Teachers’ Association, 11010-142 Street NW, Edmonton T5N 2R1, or e-mail information to andrea.berg@ata.ab.ca.
