Some 2,000 students will be paying respects to fallen veterans this month as part of the No Stone Left Alone program.
Launched in 2011, the program has participants gather for a short ceremony before they place poppies on the headstones of Canadian veterans. As they place each poppy, they say the fallen soldier’s name out loud.
In-person ceremonies are taking place all over the province, including various locations in Edmonton and Calgary. Many schools are also attending from a distance, with students watching a livestream ceremony on Nov. 4. Many schools have also planned to paint poppies on stones and rely on volunteers to take them to veterans’ cemeteries.
