Statement from ATA President on Memorandum of Agreement
A memorandum of agreement (MOA) on central bargaining matters has been reached between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA).
ATA president Mark Ramsankar is issuing the following statements in response:
“We believe that we have reached an agreement that offers significant value for teachers and for public education.”
“Within it are some very important measures to enhance the conditions of practice for teachers that will allow them greater opportunity to focus on meeting the needs of their students.”
“Alberta teachers and students were a major focus of these negotiations, and this agreement offers both groups significant value.”
“The new bargaining model worked well. It offered us a well-defined and fair process to discuss teachers’ conditions of practice with government and school boards.”
“Teachers will have the final say on whether the agreement is accepted, through a vote of individual members. We will be working hard over the coming weeks to inform members fully about the agreement.”
President Ramsankar will be available for comment tomorrow morning.
