Alberta Teachers’ Association president Greg Jeffery is offering congratulations to Premier-Designate Jason Kenney on his impressive win in yesterday’s Alberta election.
“Congratulations to Mister Kenney and the United Conservative Party on their decisive victory. We look forward to working with you, your government and your new education minister on continuing to advance and improve Alberta’s world-class public education system.
Throughout this election campaign, Alberta’s teachers spoke to candidates and spoke publicly to raise the profile of education as an issue. We have had fruitful and valuable conversations with many of the members who have now been elected as part of this new government. We offer our congratulations to all successful MLAs, and we look forward to continuing these conversations.
Teachers and parents want to see the persistent issues of large class sizes and under-supported students with special needs addressed. We welcome the UCP’s pledge to undertake an audit of class size funding to help ensure that funds dedicated to improve learning conditions are spent in the way they will best support students.”
President Jeffery is also offering thanks to Premier Rachel Notley and Education Minister David Eggen for their service over the past four years.
“Albertans have been well served by your commitment to public education and Alberta’s students and teachers. Thank you for your service—we look forward to continuing to work with you in your new roles.”
The Alberta Teachers’ Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its 46,000 members.
