Calgary Catholic teachers reject mediator’s recommendation
Calgary Catholic teachers have rejected by a 93.5 per cent margin a government-appointed mediator’s recommended terms of settlement for a new collective agreement. The vote was conducted December 5.
The mediator recommended a one-year collective agreement; a 2 per cent salary increase retroactive to September 1, 2006, followed by a 1.25 per cent increase effective January 1, 2007; and a $3,405 increase in principals’ minimum allowance. The key issue in dispute is hours of work, which the mediator did not address.
Calgary Roman Catholic Separate School District No. 1 employs 2,702 teachers. They have been without a collective agreement since August 31, 2006.
