Feedback sought on action plan for transformational change
ATA News Staff
The Alberta government is continuing to engage the public opinion as it develops a new
School Act and seeks to achieve transformational change in education.
Inspiring Education: A Dialogue with Albertans, a two-year consultation process, culminated in a report released in June 2010. Shortly afterwards, the government released its response to the
Inspiring Education report in the form of a discussion paper entitled
Inspiring Action on Education.
The government is now looking for feedback on that discussion paper. This phase of consultation continues until October 31, 2010, and features three main components:
• The Inspiring Action overall survey
• Six online transformation guides
• Six online facilitated dialogues
All three components as well as other engagement activities and opportunities can be accessed through Alberta Education’s website (
http://engage.education.alberta.ca).
The Inspiring Action Overall Survey and the first three transformation guides (
Parental and Community Engagement; Shared Governance, Collaboration, School Boards, and Natural Person Powers; and
Student-Centred Education) are already available online.
Visitors to Alberta Education’s public engagement site can also register to participate in online facilitated dialogues scheduled to take place as follows:
• August 19, 7–9 p.m., Parental and Community Engagement
• August 19, 1:30–3:30 p.m., Shared Governance, Collaboration, School Boards, and Natural Person Powers
• September 30, 6:30–8:30 p.m., Student-Centred Education, Competencies, and Curriculum
To participate in the online facilitated dialogues you must register at

The outcomes of this consultation process could affect the direction of education policy and practices in Alberta for years to come. Teachers are encouraged to participate in the process and to encourage supporters of public education in their communities to do likewise.
