Hoop dancer Dallas Arcand performs during the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s Alberta Host Evening, held at the Blatchford Hangar, Fort Edmonton Park, in Edmonton.

Arcand was the world champion hoop dancer in 2006 and 2007. In addition to hoop dancing, the evening featured the Kita No Taiko Japanese drummers and Cheremosh Ukrainian dancers.

The Alberta Host Evening event was held in conjunction with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation’s (CTF) 90th annual general meeting, July 14–16. About 130 delegates and observers from across Canada attended the meeting, which was cohosted by CTF and the Association. The meeting’s theme was “Building Canada through Education: Drawing on Our Strengths.” Delegates deliberated on issues related to governance, budget, education and poverty.

CTF speaks for nearly 200,000 teachers in Canada as their national voice on education and related social issues. Its membership includes teacher organizations across Canada.
