City to host 95th Annual Representative Assembly

More than 450 teachers from across Alberta will gather in Calgary over the Victoria Day long weekend, May 19–21, for the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s 95th Annual Representative Assembly.

Teachers will discuss policy and set the Association’s 2012/13 operating budget. During the three-day event, more than 170 resolutions covering curriculum; education finance; professional growth, supervision and evaluation; outreach education; educational accountability; corporate presence in schools; diversity, equity and human rights; and working conditions for professional service will be debated.

Resolutions were featured in the Resolutions Bulletin, published in the ATA News, March 27, 2012. Resolutions adopted at ARA constitute the policy of the Association and are published in the Members’ Handbook.

During Saturday’s opening session, the Association’s Honorary Membership and the Public Education Award will be presented. Honorary membership, the ATA’s highest honour, will be conferred on Ernie Clintberg, former ATA associate executive secretary.

The ATA’s Public Education Award, which recognizes people or groups that have demonstrated outstanding support for public education in Alberta, will be presented to Sandra Anderson, a lawyer with Field LLP.
