Apply to Become an Association Instructor

Association instructors facilitate workshops for school and district-based professional development events at teachers’ conventions and specialist council conferences. The ATA is seeking outstanding classroom teachers from all grade levels and subject areas from across the province. We especially encourage applications from teachers who are proficient in French, those who self-identify as First Nations, Métis and Inuit, and those who specialize in special education, counselling and administration. The three-year appointments for these assignments begin in August 2010.

Successful candidates are expected to deliver between 7 and 10 workshops per year and must attend two training sessions per year. Initial training for new instructors will occur at Summer Conference (attendance at Summer Conference is required for all new instructors). Summer Conference takes place from August 9 to 13, 2010, in Banff, Alberta. The Association covers release time and associated expenses, and pays an honorarium. Please do not apply if you are unable to attend the entirety of Summer Conference or cannot commit to attending all training sessions. As a courtesy, please advise your superintendent and principal that you will be applying prior to doing so. All applicants must be active or associate members of the ATA and hold an Alberta teaching certificate.

Please send a letter of application by mail or e-mail to Joni Turville, Executive Staff Officer, The Alberta Teachers’ Association, 11010-142 Street, Edmonton T5N 2R1; e-mail: joni.turville@ata.ab.ca. Deadline for application is January 25, 2010. For more information, please visit www.teachers.ab.ca.
