In a December 5, 2006, letter to Ron Liepert, Minister of Education, Premier Stelmach outlined specific goals for the Minister to undertake. "As Minister of Education, you will have some very specific priorities which will assist us in achieving our collective goals. I see your specific priorities in your capacity as Minister of Education to be the following: Explore options to provide children with access to early learning opportunities; develop a strategy to improve high school completion rates; and, initiate negotiations on options for a reasonable long term solution to the teacher’s unfunded pension liability issue."
