Bulmer is enrolled in a Fresh Start program offered by Edmonton Catholic Schools. Fresh Start programs serve students who have left traditional schools and require alternative, flexible non-traditional educational opportunities.

Huculiak says his students usually see success within a month. "We keep attendance like any other school and the kids have to be here a minimum of 12 hours a week. They learn to motivate themselves. We’re not here to harp, just help."

"This school works well for me," says Bulmer. "It’s self-paced and if you have the determination, you can accomplish a lot. The teachers are always here to help when I need them—they’re really friendly and supportive."
