Denele Somshor-Walsh has been named acting coordinator of Member Services for the Association for a one-year term commencing September 1. She will replace Calvin Fraser, who has been granted sabbatical leave.
Somshor-Walsh joined the ATA in 1988 as an executive assistant in Member Services. In 1992/93, she served as acting coordinator of Operations.
Somshor-Walsh began her teaching career with the Country of Strathcona in 1968. She subsequently worked as a classroom teacher, guidance counsellor, psychologist, assistant principal and principal in four other school jurisdictions. From 1986 to 1988, she was employed as supervisor of curriculum and instruction for the Country of Parkland.
Throughout her career, Somshor-Walsh has been actively involved in her profession, serving as president of the ATA Guidance Council, as sub-local president of the East Smoky Local and as a member of the ATA's Professional Relations Panel.
Somshor-Walsh holds a bachelor of arts degree from Fort Wright College of the Holy Names in Spokane, Washington, and a master of education degree from the University of Alberta.
She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the ATA Council on School Administration and the Psychologists Association of Alberta.
