Professional Development Publications
The Association publishes professional development monographs, research, reviews, reports, proceedings, studies and guides, as well as material on learning and teaching issues developed for teachers, administrators and parents.
Recent publications include the following:
- A Framework for Professional Development in Alberta - outlines the purpose and principles of effective professional development.
- A Guide to the Essential Conditions to Support Implementation - a resource that outlines essential conditions for successful implementation of education policies, curricula, programs and other education initiatives.
- Action Research Monograph: Teacher Leadership in Assessment-case studies in K-3 Literacy.
- Action Research: Facilitation and Implementation - provides background information and support to educational leaders who engage in the process of facilitating action research.
- Action Research Guide for Alberta Teachers - articulates the process for initiating action research that enables educators to study educational issues, implement change and document professional growth.
- Administrator Mentorship Handbook - provides guidance for planning and implementing an administrator mentorship program in a jurisdiction. [French/English]
- Education Is Our Buffalo: A Teachers' Resource for First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education in Alberta - includes information on history, spirituality and teachings, cultural traditions and recent developments in K–12 Aboriginal education.
- Getting to the Heart of Learning: How is Your Child Doing in School? - a parent guide to reporting student learning.
- Guide to Comprehensive Professional Development Planning - describes the process for developing jurisdiction and school comprehensive professional development plans. [French/English]
- Here Comes Everyone-Teaching in the Intercultural Classroom - a resource designed to support the needs of practicing teachers. Included with the workshop of the same name. (New)
- Issues in Education Number 72/Fall 2008 Teacher Bulletin: The Teaching Professions View of Student Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability for the 21st Century - provides teachers with background on provincial achievement testing, looks at the issues facing teachers today, outlines concerns regarding standardized testing, profiles principles of assessment and evaluation, and presents suggestions for communicating with parents and taking action.
- Mentorship For Beginning Teachers Program Guide - provides background information and support for local school districts and administrators to develop a mentorship program. (Under revision)
