How to file
File your claim from any computer with Internet access by typing www.servicecanada.gc.ca
. Then select "Apply for Employment Insurance Benefits" under Online Services and Forms.
When to file
To ensure prompt service,
you must file your application for benefits within four weeks of your last day of work or you may lose benefits. Note that if you are pregnant, you may file within a few days after delivery of baby—filing before baby is delivered may have other implications (contact Teacher Welfare for advice).
If you are already receiving a pension
If you are currently receiving a pension OR will be receiving a pension within the next 52 weeks, you must list the type of pension, the monthly amount and the date when your pension first started being paid.
Other Service Canada online services
You can also submit biweekly reports, view your claim information, change your address and add, change or stop direct deposit. Once your claim has been approved, Service Canada will send you a letter with instructions for these services.
