Description: As society become more litigious, teachers are becoming increasingly concerned about their liability with respect to the safety of the students in their care. This presentation will review the underlying principles of teacher liability, examine some actual situations in which teachers were found liable and explain the steps that teachers can take to avoid being found negligent. The liability of teachers in such circumstances as accompanying students on field trips, organizing school sports, administering medication and assisting students with special needs will be discussed.
