How Do I Initiate an Investigation of Alleged Unprofessional Conduct?
Making a complaint of unprofessional conduct initiates a formal, legalistic process that can have very serious consequences for the member being investigated. Depending on the circumstances, a member found guilty of unprofessional conduct can face a range of penalties including a reprimand, a fine, a suspension or cancellation of membership, and a recommendation for suspension or cancellation of certification.
Therefore, a person having concerns about the professional conduct of an ATA member is well advised to contact the ATA's Member Services Program Area before initiating a formal complaint. In some cases, ATA staff can resolve the matter informally by meeting with the member whose behaviour is of concern.
A person wishing to make a formal complaint about the professional conduct of an ATA member should download, fill out and mail or fax to the ATA's executive secretary a form entitled "Request for Investigation of Alleged Unprofessional Conduct"
